Alumnus Keith Nyberg ’91 is heading to Nepal to attempt to summit Mount Everest (8,848m), the highest peak on Earth.
It’s a major milestone in his Seven Summits journey: climbing the highest mountain on each continent. With Everest in his sights this year and Antarctica planned to follow, he is edging closer to completing the full challenge.
What began in 2003 as curiosity and a love of the outdoors evolved into a serious goal in 2013. Since then, he has methodically built the experience, resilience and judgement required to take on the world’s most demanding peaks.
So far, he has summited:
• Mount Kilimanjaro, 5895m (Africa)
• Mount Kosciuszko, 2228m (Australasia)
• Mount Elbrus, 5642m (Europe)
• Aconcagua, 6961m (South America)
• Denali/Mount McKinley, 6194m (North America)
• Cartensz Pyramid, 4884m (Oceania)
Still to come:
• Mount Everest, 8848m (Asia) — April
• Vinson Massif, 4892m (Antarctica) — later this year
When he reaches the summit, he’ll carry an Ivanhoe flag as a tribute to the community where his journey began.
Please join us in wishing Keith all the best with his journey, we can’t wait to see him at the summit!
