OIG’s Sam Torre ’15 and Rubi Dinardo ’17 are hosting an exhibition at RMIT First Site Gallery featuring fellow Plenty alumni. The exhibition reflects on personal experience and imagination. “We are exploring both physical and ephemeral ideas in response to the house and considering that it is memories, stories and shared experience that shape a home. Collaboration has always been the centre of both of our practices, which is why we brought together a group of creatives compiled of both family and old classmates spanning 10 years in age”. Rubi who is currently studying Fine Arts and Sam who is currently studying Architecture are joined by: Lou Verga, ’10, who has recently completed his masters in literature Tori Dinardo ’13, who is currently studying Interior Design Will Dundon ‘16, who is currently studying Audio Production/Engineering As well, Joseph Fonti who is currently finishing his final year of Fine Arts.

The 14th annual Nigel Kendall Shield match was played between OIGCC and IGS 1st XI on the South Ground, Wednesday 20th Feb 2019. OIGCC were led by Captain Ryan Pearce ‘01 and included old boys Wayne Vanderwert ‘89, Ryan Hense ‘96, David Peacock ‘01, Mark Moncrieff ‘06, Jake Chiminello ‘14, and Blair Dawson ’14. The match was played in fantastic spirit by all involved and it was good to see the OIG’s have a win against the School XI for the first time in 5 years. OIG Tarik Frimpong ’12 has recently made his feature film debut, landing the role of ‘Angus’ in Disney’s ‘Mary Poppins Returns’. Tarik first made his professional theatre debut and gained wide prominence playing the role of ‘Young Simba’ in Disney’s ‘The Lion King’. Tarik was also a big part of the musical theatre scene at Ivanhoe appearing in productions of Urinetown, Cabaret, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Witches of Eastwick and Chicago, and he continues to support the performing arts community at Ivanhoe. What an incredible achievement for this talented 24-year-old!

Always great to have alumni come and visit and tour the school. We welcomed back School Captain, Jack Pead ‘06 today. Jack is currently living in New York and working for the Australian Consulate. We look forward to seeing Jack again at the OIGA New York Drinks to be held on Friday 28 February 2020.

‘It’s not often that a picture book makes you cry, but The House on the Mountain did just that.’ Ella Holcombe’s ’00 ‘The House on the Mountain’ is a powerful story of a family experiencing the black Saturday fires, it’s devastating aftermath, and the long process of healing and rebuilding. Many alumni may of known Ella’s Father David Holcombe who was a teacher at the Plenty campus. Ella’s book has been met with rave reviews and is one to definitely check out.
A group of alumni from the class of 2014 have been making some noise in the music industry recently! Matthew Martin, Nic Schwarz, Dan Carolan, and Ali Ward, four friends who graduated from TRC in 2014 form ‘Telescreen’ an Indie Pop band who have just released their new single ‘In Mind’. The track has been met with positive reviews on Triple J Unearthed and is quoted as ‘being a mashup between Angles–era Strokes and Phoenix, sees the group offer waves of melodic hooks, backed by a steady groove and some slick basslines’.
The President and members of the OIGA would like to extend their congratulations to Geoffrey Raby ‘71 on becoming an Officer of the Order of Australia in the recent Queen’s Birthday Honours List. A member of the School’s Gallery of Achievement, Geoffrey received the honour for “distinguished service to Australia-China relations through senior diplomatic roles, and to multilateral trade policy development.” Geoffrey has held many roles but was the Australian Ambassador to The Peoples Republic of China from 2007 until 2011. Congratulations also to current parents Carrie Bickmore OAM and Cameron Smith AM.
