Michael graduated with MSc (Melb) and PhD (Syd) specialising in Pharmacology. He was Resident Fellow at Oxford and Sydney Universities (1959-60) and Resident Fellow and Lecturer at The University of London (1960-65). He held the position of Emeritus Professor of Pharmacology, University of Melbourne and Adjunct Professor, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology from 1991 until his death. He served on the National Food Authority, the Advisory Committee of the National Heart Foundation, the Smoking and Health Research Foundation and was President of the Australian Physiological and Pharmacological Society (1989-91). He published ‘Textbooks of Pharmacology’ (jointly) in 1968 and 1980.
