Principles breakfast with guest Walter Mikac

The Old Ivanhoe Law Society first emerged following the Latrobe Uni Coffee-catch-up held at the Bundoora campus late in 2016. Since then, Nigel Preston ’72, Simon Chiarelli ’05 and Jack Fry ’12 have had regular meetings with Ivanhoe alumni coordinator Elise Dunstan ’01 to set target objectives of the Society, plan and roll out future events. An Old Ivanhoe Law Society LinkedIn Group was then established in December 2016 intended to provide a specific online platform for alumni who are studying law or working in the industry to connect professionally. In February, Nigel, Simon and Jack hosted an informal introductory session on-campus at TRC for 1st and 2nd year tertiary students to learn about the industry, the Society and heard from a Corporate Lawyer from BHP Billiton. Having gained traction quite quickly through the LinkedIn Group there was great interest in meeting in-person. Specifically, to network and for ‘younger alum’ who are tertiary students, to seek out a mentor who is more established in their career. Elise encouraged alumni to attend the Principal’s Breakfast as an opportunity to meet and was thrilled with the response – 19 alumni working in various areas of law and collectively spanning almost 50 years attended! Judge Jamie Parrish ’70 was the eldest and Plenty alumna Caitlin Dagher ’16 was the youngest. We look forward to growing and strengthening the Association again at the upcoming Old Ivanhoe Cocktails & Connections event.
