After leaving school, John obtained a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from Melbourne University and a Fellowship Diploma of Management from RMIT. He joined Alcoa Australia in 1970 as an Applications Engineer and then moved to the U.S where he was based in New York. John rose to the position of Executive Vice President of Alcoa and Chairman of Alcoa of Australia Ltd. He is a past chairman of the International Aluminium Institute in London and past chairman of the world’s biggest metals clearing house, The London Metal Exchange. A former member of the Board of Governors, John is a Life Governor of the School.
