A graduate of the University of Melbourne, where he studied Linguistics and German, and of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, bass-baritone Derek Welton has performed in many of Europe’s great opera houses and concert halls in repertoire ranging from Bach to Wagner and Richard Strauss. Notable highlights have included his acclaimed début at the Hamburg State Opera as Voland in Der Meister und Margarita, singing Klingsor in Parsifal at the Beijing Music Festival, Pangloss in Candide at the Rome Opera and Mozart’s Figaro for Glyndebourne, as well as Bach’s St John Passion in the Theater an der Wien. From August 2015 he takes a fixed position at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin.
