Mia Haravitsidis ’15 has a passion for supporting youth.
Whether it was coaching and mentoring gymnasts at Ivanhoe Grammar School, Our Ladies of Mercy College and Eltham College, tutoring maths students or being a graduate ambassador and peer mentor to undergratuates, Mia has been able to inspire students.
Despite, being a motivated and enthusiastic student, Mia’s own experiences on starting university was very different.
She felt disconnected and lacking guidance in her Bachelor of Commerce at Melbourne University, and couldn’t connect with her new peers or course. In her words, she was out of her depth.
However, her persistence (she completed a Commerce Degree and is now in her final year of her Masters in Teaching) and her ability to navigate through university has cultivated into the launching of the Student Space podcast. A resource for secondary school students which focuses on supporting students after secondary school, imparting knowledge and experiences on navigating through university.
The first series of the podcast focuses on university life. Mia is joined by other university students who share insights to their undergraduate courses and share what they wish they knew when they were in the senior years of school.
The first episode is out now and features alumnus Steph Elovaris ’16 about her Commerce/Engineering degree at Monash.
