Michael attended IGS from 1963 to 1969 and then graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce at Melbourne University. He was a School Prefect in 1969, a member of Thoresby and participated in many sports teams, represented the School in winning the Greenway Cup, was an editor of the Spectator and Ivanarian, was active in Cadets for two years and a founding student of the IGS Camera Club. He and his wife Jan have two boys – Robert (OIG 1995) married to Leah with four children and Rohan (OIG 1997) married to Michelle with two daughters. Some of his grandchildren may well become fourth generation Ivanhoe Grammarians since his father Bruce also attended IGS and was a Life Governor of the School. Michael’s work career embraced managing various businesses, including general importing, exporting, the clothing industry, food industry (Elders IXL), security and hardware industry (incl. Chubb Locksmiths and the Guardmaster Security Group) and Architectural Hardware. From 1995 till 2012 he was Managing Director Australasia for a German multinational company called DORMA which specialises in “door control products”.  He served in various industry bodies and was President of some. He is greatly enjoying “life after work” and is pleased to be part of the OIGA Council.
