We invite our alumni to the 2026 Old Ivanhoe Grammarians’ Business Breakfast – an energising morning of leadership insights and networking. Join us on Thursday 23 July 2026 from 7.00am – 9.00am at Buckley Hall, Ivanhoe Grammar School, Ridgeway Campus.
Over breakfast, hear from Mark Squirrell OAM (’89) as he shares Leadership Under Pressure: Insights from Gaza to Everest – real world lessons from some of the world’s most challenging environments, prompting thinking and providing practical takeaways about leadership when the stakes are high – particularly in the context of today’s turbulent and highly geo‑politically charged environments.
Mark ‘Squiz’ Squirrell OAM (‘89) graduated from Ivanhoe Grammar School in 1989. He and his wife Ingrid have two sons, Oscar (‘25) and Digby (Year 11). A former Australian Army Commando awarded the coveted Green Beret, Mark has had a distinguished career as an International Aid Worker with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), escorting food convoys and supporting frontline operations in complex and high-risk environments. His experiences span conflict zones and disaster responses, where calm decision-making, clear communication and resilient leadership are essential. Inspired by his work with the WFP, Squiz also summited Mount Everest to help raise awareness of global hunger, and later captured his story in his memoir, From Arafat to Everest. Recognised in the 2019 Australia Day Honours with an Order of Australia Medal for service to the international community through humanitarian aid, he now shares hard-won lessons on leadership, resilience and communication through engaging keynotes and workshops to support others in leadership pursuits.
