Dr Peter J Cochrane ‘67

Peter Cochrane graduated with first class Honours in History from La Trobe University in 1974 and gained his PhD from University of Adelaide in 1978. In 1981, he was appointed lecturer at Sydney University where he taught History until 1996. Peter is the author of six books and two further volumes in which he is editor and contributing author. In 2007, his book ‘Colonial Ambition – The Foundations of Australian Democracy’ was a co-winner of the inaugural Prime Minister’s prize for Australian History. The book also won the 2007 Age Book of the Year Award. Peter has also researched and written ‘Australians at War’, which is the companion volume to the eight-hour ABC Television Documentary broadcast in 2001.
