Brigadier David P Welch ‘77

Brigadier David Welch was born in Melbourne and completed his education at Ivanhoe Grammar School and ADA High-school in the USA. He graduated from the Royal Military College in 1981 and served in a variety of appointments both here and overseas. Promoted to Colonel in 2001, he was appointed Director of Land Support Development in the Capability Systems Staff and in 2002 served as Assistant Chief of Staff for Support in the UN Peacekeeping Force in East Timor. In January 2004, he was appointed Director General Land Combat Systems in the Defence Materiel Organisation. Brigadier Welch is the highest-ranking Old Ivanhoe Grammarian to have served his country.
