Old Ivanhoe Grammarian Robert (Bob) George Batrouney (‘63) has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General Division in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours, recognising his extensive service to the community.
A member of the Class of 1963, Bob Batrouney’s connection to Ivanhoe Grammar began with strong involvement in school life. He spent five years in the First XI and was appointed a prefect in his final year, establishing an early foundation of leadership and commitment.
Following his time at Ivanhoe, he undertook university studies before joining the family business, Merlvic Schrank, a successful sleepwear company, where he began his professional career.
Bob’s most significant contribution has been through his longstanding involvement with the Rotary Club, particularly the Rotary Club of Balwyn, where he has dedicated more than four decades to community service. His leadership within Rotary has been extensive, including serving as President (2007–2008), Vice President on two occasions, and holding numerous committee and governance roles across initiatives such as the Centenary Grants Committee, Timor Leste Rotary Liaison Office, and the Rotary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Tertiary Scholarship.
His commitment to service has included hands-on volunteering, long-term project involvement, and ongoing leadership within Rotary programmes, reflecting a sustained and meaningful contribution to both local and international communities.
Beyond Rotary, Bob has also contributed to industry and education, including as a foundation member of the Sleepwear Manufacturers Association and through his involvement in the Family Business Association. He has additionally supported educational institutions, including serving as Vice President of the Carey Grammar School Foundation.
This recognition through the Order of Australia acknowledges a lifetime of leadership, service and philanthropic engagement, and highlights Bob’s lasting impact across multiple sectors.
