Reverend Irwin B Faris ‘57

An eminent Vascular Surgeon, Irwin Faris devoted his entire working life to the care of his patients and to the teaching and training of Surgeons in Western Australia, South Australia and Victoria. He also served on many boards responsible for the examining and training of Medical Practitioners. In 1992 he was appointed Foundation Professor of Surgery, The University of Melbourne (The Geelong Hospital) until his retirement in 1999. He was awarded the Royal Australian College of Surgeons medal for services to surgery in 2000. Instead of a life of retirement, Irwin took holy orders in the Anglican Church and was ordained in the Diocese of Melbourne in 2000.
